Hello!

Two quick trades to update this week.

The first trade was on for 9 trading days, the second for just 7. Gotta love quick trades and profits!

This week:

  1. $62 profit in Apple (AAPL)

  2. $80 profit in Dick's Sporting Goods (DKS)

$62 profit in AAPL

AAPL had a little down move at the beginning of October, which provided a nice opportunity to initiate a position.

I sold a cash-secured put at the $205 strike, expiring Nov 1, and received $122 premium up front.

However with earnings coming up at the end of the month, I was a little more cautious about the risk of holding this trade through earnings, and provided a little more context as to why I wanted to take this off for a profit early.

Ultimately the trade went according to plan, and it hit my 50% profit target just 9 trading days later.

I paid $60 to buy back the position, which led to $62 in realized profit (or 51% of max profit).

I think it's really important to go into any trade with a strategy and one eye on things that could go wrong, in this case the potential for the trade to go past earnings.

That then informs my ideal way of handling the trade, as well as any plans I may need to fall back on in case things don't go according to plan.

AAPL has done pretty well in my portfolio so far, with $794 in realized profits across 8 trades so far in 2024 (all wins).

$80 profit in DKS

Similar to the AAPL trade, on Oct 7 DKS presented a nice opportunity but it's been volatile all year and I did not want to hold this for too long.

I sold a cash-secured put at the $175 strike expiring Nov 15 and received $155 in premium up front.

With the mindset of being more conservative on this trade, I entered my closing trade for 50% of max profit, and just left it to work in the background.

That target was hit just 7 trading days later on Oct 15.

I paid $75 to close the position, leading to $80 realized profit (52% of max profit)

And there you have it, 2 quick trades with relatively quick profits.

October is shaping up to be a great month for options. I'm pushing the October monthly update back a week because there's another trade I want to share, but in the meantime you can check out September's profits with $1,373 profit across 7 trades at the link below.

Closing thoughts & useful links

We had a bit of a choppy week in the markets, though it looks like the upward trend is set to continue.

Earnings did provide the catalyst for a couple of trades in PG & KO, and I'm looking forward to sharing them with you once profits are in.

Have a good weekend!
