Happy weekend!

Earnings season tends to provide some nice opportunities when stocks drop, here are a couple of examples today.

This week:

  1. $165 profit in Texas Instruments (TXN)

  2. $175 profit in Hershey (HSY)

$165 profit in TXN

During earnings season, TXN dropped and provided yet another opportunity to enter a new trade.

Unlike last week's trade in WM, TXN did not rally immediately after this drop and in fact dropped all the way down to $155, which made the position look a little dicey.

However with just one week to go till expiration, I decided to let the trade run and stick to my original profit target, and with just one day to go, my closing order got hit and my trade got filled.

I bought my position back for $50, which is a realized profit of $165 , or about 77% of max profit.

TXN has been in my portfolio quite a bit this year. I've placed 10 trades, of which 9 have closed for a total realized profit of $1,817, and 1 trade still open.

$175 profit in HSY

This HSY trade was also an earnings trade, the difference is that this one went a lot more smoothly.

After HSY's earnings, I sold the Dec 19 $155 cash-secured put for an initial premium of $275.

The open interest was slightly below my preference, so I labeled this as a bonus trade, which means it doesn't line up perfectly with my trade entry criteria, but I still think it's worth considering.

As mentioned at the top, thankfully there was no drama with this trade and I bought position back for $100, leading to a realized profit of $175, or about 64% of max profit.

HSY hasn't been in my portfolio as frequently as TXN, but it's still 4 wins from 4 trades with a running realized profit amount of $680.

Every bit adds up!

Closing thoughts & useful links

With most earnings done and a short trading week, the market didn't have lots of movement this week - on to the next!

Have a good weekend!
