The Discount Store

Since I started offering my full options course in 2022 (now called The Income Machine), the number one piece of feedback I've received is that people were looking for a "first step" to start with options instead of a full blown options strategy that requires more time and management.

The Discount Store is that first step. This is a beginner-focused course for investors who want a better framework for buying stocks they already want to own at a discount.

If buying stocks at market prices is level zero and actively trading options is level one, The Discount Store is level 0.5 — a nice in-between.

By the end of the course, you should be able to identify, structure and execute a cash-secured put yourself, and understand exactly what happens whether it expires or you’re assigned the shares.

The course is currently in its pilot stage with a small group of alpha participants. You can enter your email address here to be alerted when the course launches to the public.

The scope is deliberately narrow, focused on using cash-secured puts to engineer a suitable discount to purchase stocks at a lower price, setting the investor up for future success.

One strategy to execute comprehensively

In The Discount Store, you will not be learning about managing option trades or rolling or multi-leg strategies.

The course will teach you:

  • how to overcome the problem with buying stocks at market prices

  • what exactly a cash-secured put is

  • how to use cash-secured puts to your advantage when it comes to long-term investing

  • the critical technical details about options that you need (and throwing out all the noise)

  • how to navigate the options trading page, how to look at strikes, expiration, premium, etc

  • to understand exactly what happens at expiry

  • to understand assignment without fearing it

  • and lots more

You will not need any prior options experience. I assume everyone starts from zero.

Do note that The Discount Store is a framework. Each person will apply the framework differently, depending on their own investing priorities.

The framework is sufficiently broad to be applied across most approaches and such this course will not cover stock selection. You will decide on the stocks/ETFs you want to own and then apply the framework to those stocks or ETFs.

Because assignment means purchasing 100 shares, you should only apply the framework to stocks or ETFs you genuinely want and can afford to own.

Who is this course for?

The Discount Store may be a good fit for you if:

  • you believe that saving alone is not going to build wealth

  • you already invest in stocks (or intend to)

  • you find yourself hesitating when deciding to buy a stock because you're not sure if you want to pay current market prices

  • you find yourself hesitating when the price of a stock drops because what if it drops further?

  • you are interested in options but don't want to go all-in on a full system, but still want to use them to potentially improve your investment outcomes

  • you want to go deep into one strategy and learn it inside out

  • you are willing to tailor a framework to your personal investing goals, instead of looking for instructions to follow

  • you want enough competence to execute this strategy yourself to a high level of confidence

Who this course is not for:

The Discount Store is probably not for you if:

Some important things to note:

  • Unlike my other course, there are no batches ie everything is on demand

  • Once you pay for the course, you will instantly gain access to all materials, as a result there can be no refunds offered

  • You have lifetime access to all course materials (slides and recordings) for as long as I am offering this course

  • There will be a Q&A section in a text forum. All questions must be posted to this section and will only be answered there (no individual DMs).

  • All answers to questions will be delayed by a minimum of 24 hours. This course does not require an element of speed. If you post something that requires an immediate response, something is wrong.

  • I will not respond to questions if the answers can be easily found in the course material. You have to put in some effort.

  • The recordings and screenshots are from the broker Tastytrade. You can use any platform and they will be mostly similar. I will not be able to answer any platform-specific questions and you should reach out to your broker if you have any.

  • Participation in The Discount Store does not affect participation in my other course in any way. ie participants from The Discount Store still have to apply to join the other course as per normal and are not given any priority.

  • If any of these points don't work for you, please do not sign up for this course. I promise we will both be happier that way.

Additional support

Finally, if you complete the course and feel like you would like more support, there is a subscription that is completely optional.

It will include 5 key components:

  1. My personal Discount Store targets - the stocks I'm looking to apply the strategy on

  2. Live trade context (when available) — when I make a Discount Store trade, I’ll share the setup and reasoning so you can see how the framework is being applied in real market conditions.

  3. Weekly progress updates - a weekly check in on positions

  4. Live office hours (at least 1 per quarter) - for subscribers to come ask questions live, share their own trades etc

  5. Full archive access to all the above updates - videos are recorded and uploaded within 24 hours

This is entirely optional. My goal is for you to have everything you need from the course alone.

However experience from my other course has shown that a live hands on approach that can show the framework being applied in real time is something that people value, so I will be offering the same here.

The cost will be $29 per month or $290 per year and you can choose to activate the subscription at any time after completing the course.

FAQs

What's the difference between this and your full options course?

The Income Machine teaches a broader options-selling system, including additional strategies and active trade management. The Discount Store deliberately teaches one strategy.

Do I need any options knowledge or experience?

No! This course assumes you know nothing about options and will teach you everything you need to know.

How much capital do I need?

This depends on the stock you're looking to own. One options contract represents 100 shares. So if your stock is $100 per share, you need $10,000 to execute this strategy.

That said, if you'd like to learn the strategy and build that skill so that you're ready to apply it once you have enough capital, that's a good approach too.

Can't I just learn about cash-secured puts on Youtube? Why should I pay to learn one strategy that sounds simple?

You absolutely can. This goes beyond just "what is a cash-secured put" though.

This is a complete framework that you can use for any stock or ETF you're interested in owning.

The framework's simplicity is its selling point, but don't confuse simple with easy. It still takes work.

Looking for the theory isn't the hard part. Putting everything together to form a comprehensive big picture is, and that's what this course does.

The course is currently in its pilot stage with a small group of alpha participants. You can enter your email address here to be alerted when the course launches to the public.
